Where Can I Buy Kava?

This is where we review various websites and their Kava Kava products.  Our focus is Kava root, but we have tried every kava product from every website we can find, and post what we think.  We accept no donations or solicitations from any website that sells Kava, and if we have a bad experience with any Kava site, we will always try a second and a third time before making any final judgement on the experience and the quality of Kava on that particular website.

Where to Buy Kava
We post all the sites we’ve sampled products from, but there is one site that actually offers a number of brands in one place; the Kava Marketplace over at Kava.com.

They have always only sold other brands of Kava, so it’s an easy and unbiased place to send visitors to, but in late 2013 they introduced their own brand of kava root powder called “Hi-Potency Kava.  Their service is fast (they ship same day), and shipping is Real Time shipping, and when I’ve checked rates on my own, they charge the actual cost of shipping with no markup.

I didn’t plan to take up valuable space pushing any one product, but these new Custom Kava Blends by Happy Kava Brand are too good to be true. Take a super-potent Kava Tincture, and Blend it with a super-potent herbal extract such as Kanna or Wild Lettuce, and you’ve got the most effective product for 9 different effects!  Choose from “Anxiety Relief” to “Memory Boost” to “Energizing” to “Relax and Chill” to “Insomniac” and several others. Happy Kava Blends are currently our favorite Kava product on the market (Alongside “Kavalactone 55% Paste” and “Kavalactone 30% Capsules”).

Back on track…there’s also product at the Kava Marketplace from Bula Kava House.  Bula Kava has several varieties to choose from.  We weren’t sure how much of a difference there would be between their Kava root, but there is quite a noticeable difference!  According to the folks over at Kava Dot Com, Bula Kava House is consistently tied as their Top Selling Kava Company, alongside Kona Kava Farm, and they’ve recently been featured on the Kava Marketplace in their “FEATURED – Bula Kava House” article that tells the personal story of Judd, the owner.

Kona Kava Farm and their large variety of Kava products has been a Kava staple on the internet since the mid-1990’s!  Yes, they were selling their family-owned and family-run farm-fresh Kava Kava online way back then.  Kona Kava Farm Kava is an unusually sweet strain of Kava, and those who have a difficult time acquiring a taste for Kava often find that they can handle Kona Kava Farm’s line of Kava.

Third on our list is Kava King for their Instant Kava, and not because they’re our third favorite.  They also have a dietary supplement that contains Kava in the form of a delicious chocolate bar.  It’s the only tasty Kava Chocolate Bar we know of, and it certainly is a very interesting treat.  The chocolate part of the bar tends to energize the Kava Guru, but the Kava part relaxes me at the same time.  So, eating Kava King’s Kava Chocolate Bar is a lot like being alert while also being relaxed.  I always couple my Kava Chocolate Bar experience with a shell of freshly-made Kava, and it’s a beautiful way to spend an evening!

Kava Guru encourages you to post your favorite places to buy kava below.  If you do, though, please take just a little time to also tell us why you like the place you do.  We’re happy to post links to any quality kava suppliers to share with those looking where to buy kava, but we need to know what it is about that particular brand of Kava that makes it a personal favorite.

Important Considerations

Perhaps the more important question that needs to be asked is WHAT KIND OF KAVA to buy? It’s getting easier and easier to find quality places online to purchase Kava from, but you still may be lost in the dizzying array of Kava products that are available.  The above article helps give you an idea of what’s out there and what might be best suited to your needs. In short, though, you need to decide if you want Kava to help with some stress and anxiety, or whether you want it to help you get a good night’s rest, or if you want some support for some pain you’ve got, particularly in your lower back. Yes, Kava has been shown, clinically, to help with all of these things, especially when it comes to relaxation and stress relief.

If you’re looking just to relax, you may want to look into Instant Kava drinks like the ones that Kona Kava Farm and Kava King produce. Of, if you’re looking for something gentler, to simply help ease you into a restful night’s sleep, then Kava Capsules or Kavalactone 30% Capsules might be what you’re looking for. If you’re looking for something sociable, so you can feel relaxed but energized, then Kavalactone 55% Paste might be the perfect Kava for you.

It just takes doing a little research, and figuring out what you want for you. And, I hesitate to mention it again, but with the Custom Kava Builder, all of the guesswork is taken out of choosing the perfect Kava for you. Yes, it’s only a tincture and not an actual Kava drink as of this writing, but tinctures are one of the easiest, most portable, and noticeably effective ways to consume Kava.

There are also another article that might not help you decide WHERE to buy Kava, but it can help you decide on what to purchase, and what to do after you’ve made your purchase. It’s called “KAVA FOR BEGINNERS” and it was written by me specifically to help out with newbies to the wonderful world of Kava.

I am new to kava and went for my first time last week with a couple veteran kava friends. The Root of Happiness is not too far from my place and it has a fun feel and really helpful staff. The walls are covered with awesome informative posters about where kava comes from and the traditions. The staff who was working answered every guests’ questions and made helpful suggestions for new people. I can’t wait to go back again.

We love the staff over at Root of Happiness and can’t recommend them enough! Glad to hear you had a great time, and thanks for sharing your experience!

I just bought the kona kava farm full spectrum 55 % paste. I do like it. So that it doesn’t break & go all over my mouth, making it difficult to keep under tongue; i roll it into a ball then flatten, as you would handle play dough. I do get VERY relaxed at bedtime. But looking for another product. Eclectic institute kava nakamal capsules. When i go to their website, it says site is for sale. Can you please tell me if there is ANY other website that you trust that sales it. Thank you for educating us. Your knowledge and suggestions make it SO MUCH EASIER TO BUY WHAT WE NEED. Otherwise we WOULDN’T HAVE A CLUE.

Glad you like the Kona Kava Farm 55% Paste! Kava.com carries a wide range of Kava products from various vendors, including the Eclectic Institute, so there’s no need to stray from their Kava Marketplace. If you venture out, though, you may have been looking at a different website; Eclectic Institute is http://www.eclecticherb.com/, and they’re definitely still around. They’re a VERY reputable company with great people running it.

  5. german kava lover

Where can I online order kava from Germany yet?

    • Kava Guru

      German Kava Lover,

Unfortunately, even though Germany lifted the ban on Kava, it’s still a prescription-only product. I don’t know the exact details of the new ruling (See “Understanding the German Kava Ban” article on Kava.com for more), but from speaking with various vendors, they have a heck of a time getting Kava to get to their customers successfully in Germany. I think most vendors stopped trying, even when it was ordered for personal use.

Sorry to be the bearer of bad news!

    Where can we buy

  7. Julie H

Hello, I recently purchased some kava in pill form but became afraid to take them due to some articles I read online claiming that even short term (4 week) use can lead to serious physical consequences, and that it’s been banned in several countries as a result. It didn’t help that the bottle i purchased also came with the warning to discontinue after 4 weeks.

I gather the safety issue all has to do with the way the kava is processed, and I’ve no idea whether the makers of my bottle (NOW FOODS) is conscientious. I did finally take 1 pill, but didn’t notice any calming affect.

Can you shed any light on this subject? I’m so tired of living with anxiety and don’t want to fall into the self-medication trap just for some relief. I was really hoping kava would be a safe and effective way to rest easier.

    Many thanks,

    • Kava Guru

There is a TON of negative press on Kava, despite the fact that the World Health Organization came up with a compilation of over 100 studies of the Dangers of Kava, and found that there is absolutely no connection to raw Kava Roots or Kava Roots extracted with water to the dangerous health concerns that you can find all over the internet. Negative press lingers, though, and angry voices often drown out quiet, truthful voices these days, which is unfortunate. You can read “The True Dangers of Kava” over at Kava.com to find out all you need to know about how safe and effective KAva can be.

As far as not feeling the effects of the Kava you purchased, you did purchase a very generic brand of Kava from a giant herbal company that doesn’t care about the Kava it sells. Places like Kava.com sell ONLY Kava, and they always look for the highest quality and most potent Kava that is available. They care about the Kava they sell because Kava is their business. Places like GNC just pack whatever Kava into capsules and slap their label on it. Places like Wonderland-Labs have published studies of the potency and quality of the Kava in commercially available Kava, and it’s shocking how weak those products often are.

Also, 1 pill is quite a tiny amount of Kava. To really feel the calming effects, you need to purchase a Kava Tincture Plus, some Instant Kava, or even KAvalactone 30% Capsules from Kona Kava Farm or Kava.com. These will give you a much better idea of how amazing Kava can be.

      Hope this helps!
